professor obama, not without his own weaknesses, hasn't debated since 2008. he's been long winded, professorial. no offense. and there was this moment when he debated hillary clinton. >> he's very likeable. i agree with that. i don't think i'm that bad. >> you're likeable enough, hillary. >> i appreciate that. >> a fine line between, you know, putting your opponent on notice and not appearing to be mean. >> yes. the thing about that clip is she's so efacing and good, and he comes back, barely makes eye contact, sort of writing as he makes his line, and it's a contrast between the two of them that hurts him in that clip. >> especially in the double box. professor schroeder, thank you for being with us and patrick millsaps. 50 million people expected to watch. 150 million people killed in syria. what an opposition spokesman is saying about the call for a dialog, next. about once a month. last time i was at a gas station was about...i would say... two months ago. i very rarely put gas in my chevy volt. i go to the gas station such a small amount that i forget ho

, obama, romney, who's the better debater both have clear debate skills and shown those in their debates over the time. governor romney had very good debates in the republican primaries against his opponents and was very effective in those. president obama had some pretty good debates particularly the general election debates against senator mccain. the new format they're using i'm not sure it favors either candidate. it gives president obama a little bit more opportunity to talk at length which he wants to do about his record and about the things he's going to do going forward and also to draw some contrast with governor romney. for governor romney it may give him an opportunity rather than looking like he has canned answers to show people he's more thoughtful and warmer and more likable. >> dan balz, both warm and likable. thank you very much. thanks for being with us. >> thanks. >> up next, new questions about security and intelligence behind the benghazi terror attack. former ambassador to iraq chris hill joining us live here in denver. you're watching "andrea mitchell reports" only

president obama did not win the first debate against mitt romney. whether or not you're happy about that he didn't win. but if your takeaway from this conspiracy theory in this debate is the reason the president didn't win is because mitt romney cheated, then what is the utility of that theory for you? what is the utility of that information? how do you think president obama should then prepare for the second debate? should he just do exactly what he did this past wednesday night, except keep a closer eye out for the cheating because that is the only reason he lost? i mean, it may be comforting to tell yourself this is what really went wrong here but that is not really what went wrong here and making the case that it was does not help your candidate. the worst example of this though, the invention of a comforting new parallel reality that does not mean you have to face hard truths. the worst new instance of this is how the right today responded to the new jobs numbers. today the unemployment rate dropped from 8.1% to 7.8%. it didn't drop for any of

the barack obama i heard on the debate stage was the barack obama i have been listening to now for four years. he sounded very much like himself. i don't think he was terribly bad. i think he has a very weak case and i think that the circumstances in the country present the challenging candidate with all kinds of opportunities. mitt romney was on his game and he took advantage of those opportunities. the president is saddled with weak circumstances and therefore a weak case. and it is not surprising to me that he didn't argue it very well and the other thing is despite his reputation as being this world class orator, maybe he is with a set piece speech. there was not a lot of evidence in the past that he was ever a great debater. i don't think this thing was as big a shock as the president's supporters on the left feel. i think they all thought he was 10 feet tall. he is not 10 feet tall. never has been. >> chris: about the specific issue of the truth squadding, fact checking of romney, and they continue to press. i don't think it is a very accurate thing, the $5 trillion tax cut and ta
